As a child, nothing delighted me more than reading Roald Dahl’s tales. The magical realism in his stories transported me to utopia. Placed in the real world, the magic that transcended from it was always seen through the protagonists; the eyes of a child. His characters escape their dire life situations by manifesting their imagination into magical powers to attain justice. As time passes and the world begins to taint us, this unwavering faith we all had as children, becomes mere reckless optimism we once practiced. My work is a photograph of the mundane and our everyday lives. The strokes of neon and metallic gold and silver represent enchantment; for the viewer to slip into another realm. And hope that the blurred line between reality and fantasy in my work inspires the viewer to believe in magic again. As William Blake said, true magic believes in minute observation. Only those who seek it, find it! So slip away into the fleeting hokey-pokey, ‘cause that’s what it’s all about!
